July 7 marks the one year wedding anniversary for Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira. Their wedding is always an interesting one to remember because it came quite as a surprise. No one knew Shahid even had a girl in his life and then to find out he was marrying out of the blue, it had all us media folks scrambling to find out what the real story was. All those rumors turned out true and they were married in a private ceremony in New Delhi which was then followed by a big Bollywood reception in Mumbai.

Since their wedding, we have seen Shahid and Mira quickly become a fan favourite. They are just really sweet together, right? You always see them together around town and he seems to dote on her. Shahid sure loves to surprise us as he confirmed a few months ago that he and Mira were now expecting their first child together! Mira is due mid-September.

At the recent IIFA awards, Shahid was asked about parenthood. He told media he would be taking a break from work to spend more time with Mira. “Around the time the baby is due, I will not shoot for at least a month. I want to be there in the last few days of the pregnancy. I want to be there in the last few days of the pregnancy. I want to be there when the child arrives and enjoy these moments, as these are feelings you experience perhaps once or twice in a life…I have heard stars kids complain that their parents were not there much in their childhood. I do not want to be that guy.”

While it’s an exciting time for the couple, let’s go back to when we first found out he was getting married. As I mentioned earlier, his wedding came as a surprise so we never really got to know their love story. Well, I finally have it.

Shahid told Filmfare magazine that the first time he met Mira, they spoke for seven hours. “We were at a friends’ farmhouse in Delhi. We went for a walk outside and the sun was setting behind her. I realized her eyes were not dark. They had a hazel tinge. That moment, I felt shayad main iss ladki se shaadi kar sakta hoon” (Translation: Perhaps this is the girl that I can marry?).

He also reveals he met Mira when he was shooting for ‘Udta Punjab’ and looked like his character Tommy. Although he didn’t look like his regular self, he felt a connection with Mira and after meeting 3-4 times, they decided to get married.

That’s why everything seemed to have happened so quickly. We weren’t used to seeing someone like Shahid, a big Bollywood star, not take his time by dating first. Pretty much every Bollywood star that has gotten married had known their partner well before marriage. Look at Shahid’s ex-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor. She dated Saif Ali Khan for five years before they tied the knot. (Side note, Kareena Kapoor is also expecting her first child with Saif.)

Regardless of how they met, they seem like they are really happy together. Congratulations to them on celebrating their one year wedding anniversary. With a baby on the way, there will be lots to celebrate!
