The Miss India Canada pageant is one of my favorite anticipated events to attend. It’s become a yearly ritual to go and support the contestants and of course reminisce about my own Miss India Canada days! Every year the show gets bigger and better and it seems like the competition gets tougher too! The show opened up with a fun dance number (oh I totally remember how nerve wrecking that opening dance number is!) which the contestants rocked at. Then came Indian wear, evening gown, and the nail biting question and answer period. It’s amazing how even when you’re not an actual contestant, you get those familiar butterflies in your stomach as you watch the girls compete. It was a very close race till the end with many people that I spoke with unable to pinpoint who the clear winner was. A special treat at the show was Bollywood legend Anupam Kher was the guest of honour. Anupam was hilarious with his jokes and one his witty quotes. My favorite was him telling the story about how he was told that even if he raced alone, he would come in second! Definitely inspiring to see how much he was put down early in his career by being told he would never be good enough but with dedication, he is now one of the most recognized Bollywood actors around and one of the most respected!

In the end, Mallika Kapur from Hamilton, ON won the conveted title of Miss India Canada. Congrats to Mallika and to all of the contestants on competing and bringing their A-game!
